In consideration of the conceptual frameworks presented in this module it appears that ICT can be integrated into all learning design frameworks. Using ICT as a tool provides so many varying opportunities to share, construct and consolidate learning. Recognising student's individual learning styles is still of the utmost importance when using ICT. There is a danger that the 'nerd' learning style will shape many ICT deliveries and therefore isolate other learners.
Given that ICT is now part of our lives, I believe it is really important for learning designers to remember that even though our children are digital natives they are not necessarily 'nerds'.
So, embrace the technology, remember the conceptual frameworks but most of all consider the uniqueness of the individual.

Great insight Sue, however we also need to be mindful that the 'nerds' you refer to can operate without technology. How would they survive in a blackout or if the world should be destroyed (heaven forbid this should hapen) would they have the ability to rebuild starting from scratch with tools they have never interacted with because they spent all of their time engaged with technology.
ReplyDeleteLots to ponder.

Very good points you bring up Mrs B.
ReplyDeleteHowever, in those instances I'd say the "nerds" would be able to manage. The digital natives of today still understand the concept of what a book is and how to use it. I think the major challenge for them if the World Wide Web was to vanish into oblivion would be managing with the inconvenience of sourcing information. It is possible, they know how to do it, its just a lot more time consuming and access can be a problem. The convenience of e-learning tools, including the internet, as well as their accessibility is what makes them so attractive.

I think the day of people using the computer a lot being considered nerds are long gone. Children now just don't see it like that. I think that was something more of my era when computers were not common place lol. Great blog, I am really enjoying them.
