International Cuisine for Years 8-10

http://voicethread.com/#u666673

"Voicethread" provides opportunity for a variety of visual and auditory mediums in a secure environment.
The presentation I have made is a typed comment only because 'voicethread' does not allow audio on free accounts.

The application was easy to use and I have downloaded images from "google images", pasted the URL's into the upload tab and it works easily.

The comments I have made are to promote learning and discussion within the Home Economics/Hospitality field taught in Years 8 -10. Sharing the link and allowing students to comment on-line incorporates the embedding of ICTs in learning delivery and design. Using audio recognises the differing learning styles and encourages clear and concise communication while contributing to the knowledge and ideas bank within the class.
Vygotsky's constructivism theory,(CQUniversity - Managing E-Learning, 2009) is realised in this task through questioning and research which is aided by discussion through the use of voicethread and connectivism is evident in the collaboration which is developed in discussion.

I would use this tool in an out-of-class situation because of difficulty in accessing enough computers in classtime.
regards
sue

  1. Hi Sue

Sounds like it was a pretty simple but effective learning activity you created here. Its disappointing that it has to be an out-of-classroom activity as this obviously disadvantages students who do not have a computer or internet access readily available to them at their home. Hopefully in the next couple of years the affordability of computers and internet access will mean more public schools are able to acquire sufficient resources for these learning activities. If students aren't provided with these requirements I believe they will be left behind compared to students from other countries as the world becomes increasingly more digitised.

  2. Hi Sue
I went to watch your Voice Thread, but was unable, as it didn't have a match!

I also enjoyed making the Voice Thread and found it easy to use, however the only problem that I found was with the free account you are only allowed to put a total of 3 voicethreads up at any given time. I suppose this is so that you purchase the rights to use it.

    Till next time

  3. Thanks Donna, I will try to fix that up.
I got caught with the 3 voice thread trials too, but managed to delete the first attempts which freed up enough space.
Thanks Lyneale for your comments. The small amount of experience I have had in pract teaching in the public system has caused me to make those comments re accessibility to internet.
I agree, students will be disadvantaged if this is not rectified.
